Edinburgh Inspiring Capital

Sit and wait - by Calum Macaskill (Edinburgh Inspiring Capital, Round Britain and Ireland Yacht Race) - 30 August 2010

Exactly seven days after the start we find ourselves becalmed in Donegal Bay Ireland, after a fluky night sail the wind has completely died. The remaining rollers from the previously strong Northerlies make filling our spinnaker impossible in these light breezes, so we have dropped the sail and headed off in a new direction using the wind seeker, a very light weight genoa. The barometer remains high, so with the perceived wisdom of associated South Easterlies this should put us in a good configuration when the wind finally arrives. In the mean time we sit and wait.

It's all go - by Caroline Aylott (Edinburgh Inspiring Capital, Round Britain and Ireland Yacht Race)
29 August 2010

It’s been all go on Edinburgh Inspiring Capital. There’s been barely time for a cup of tea on the last few watches and we've had a wide range of wind conditions. Yesterday afternoon we had very little wind - we tried the light weight kite, the wind seeker went up and down twice and we eventually went back to the number 1 Yankee but our boat speed was frustratingly slow. After coming back on watch at 8pm however the wind was building. We had just a short time before we had to put in a reef and change to the number 2 Yankee.

Settling in - by Calum Macaskill (Edinburgh Inspiring Capital, Round Britain and Ireland Race)
26 August 2010

Everybody is settling into the routine now although strong winds have bounced us about a little. Yesterday we had a squally old day that reduced us to two reefs and the staysail only ploughing on into to moderate seas we were taking lots of white water over the bow and took a green one into the cockpit.
