EDINBURGH SKIPPER
Matt Pike, 40, is from Ipswich, UK, and will skipper Edinburgh Inspiring Capital in the Clipper 09-10 Round the World Yacht Race. He learned to sail in the shadow of the famous village of Pin Mill on the River Orwell, the setting for Arthur Ransome’s novel, We Didn’t Mean To Go To Sea.
But the same can’t be said of Matt!
“My father got me into sailing dinghies when I was really young. East Anglia has some great inshore sailing and I sailed anything that floated – it didn’t matter what it was. It didn’t even matter if it floated well – we’d go sailing at every opportunity!
MEET THE CREW
30 May 2009 – crew allocation day – was the first time the crew of Edinburgh Inspiring Capital got together en masse. They're all people like you who are getting ready to leave behind their everyday lives and take on the challenge of a lifetime.
