The Duke of Edinburgh's Award

Hull & Humber

Edinburgh Inspiring Capital

The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award is a national youth charity which is dedicated to the personal development of young people from all backgrounds. With the widest reach of any UK youth charity, 275,000 young people (30,000 of these from disadvantaged backgrounds) undertake inspiring DofE programmes to achieve Bronze, Silver or Gold Duke of Edinburgh's Awards every year. To date we have helped 4 million people in the UK and, thanks to over 120 sister organisations, 2 million internationally.

The DofE is offered to young people aged 14-24 in schools, youth groups, higher education institutes, voluntary organisations, secure units, additional support needs’ centres, and various other types of open groups through local authorities all over Scotland. Taking part in the DofE is widely recognised by employers and educational establishments alike and is extremely valuable in times like the recession to not only build key life skills such as team-working and confidence, but is also invaluable to the communities in which participants volunteer. Six young people onboard have been funded by the DofE to take part in the Clipper Race as part of their Gold Duke of Edinburgh’s Award, collectively they are known as the Duke of Edinburgh Capital Crew.
