Piers Dudin, skipper of Hull & Humber writes on their progress in the Round Britain and Ireland Race as the rest of us enjoy the delights of a Bank Holiday. “Another 24hrs down, another 195nm closer to home. Despite light winds over night the crew have been feverishly handling the medium kite,working ‘Umba’ down wind, the helm and the trim continuously communicating wind and speed information to each other.

While the bulk of the pack find themselves heading towards the halfway point of the Sevenstar Round Britain and Ireland race, up ahead the Clipper teams of Hull & Humber and Edinburgh Inspiring Capital are out in the Atlantic and closing in on the Emerald Isle.

It’s clear that the crews on board Hull & Humber and Edinburgh Inspiring Capital are invigorated at being at sea and their pens have been busy over the last 24 hours. As they race in to day 6 of the Sevenstar Round Britain and Ireland Race, the teams have reached the half way point with 950 miles sailed and 950 still to go.

Muckle Flugga Ahoy!

Its day four of the Sevenstar Round Britain and Ireland Yacht Race and both Clipper entries, Hull & Humber and Edinburgh Inspiring Capital are maintaining good progress as they now set their sights on Muckle Flugga, the most northerly tip of the British Isles.

Old & New combine

Another busy 24 hours for the two Clipper entries in the Sevenstar Round Britain and Ireland Yacht Race as they start their third day at sea. Strong winds on the beam continue to ensure a fast passage and yesterday saw Hull & Humber pass the mouth of the Humber River, bringing back fond memories of the Clipper 09-10 race finish which took place a little over a month ago. Meanwhile Edinburgh Inspiring Capital have their sights firmly on catching the Yorkshire boat as skipper Jim Dobie reports.

Making great progress
24 August 2010

After setting off on the Sevenstar Round Britain and Ireland Yacht Race yesterday Hull & Humber and Edinburgh Inspiring Capital have both made good progress as the challenging conditions continued. The teams have been racing for 24 hours since the start cannon fired from the Royal Yacht Squadron in Cowes on the Isle of Wight. A 30 knot breeze and some lumpy sea conditions delivered challenges from the outset but it has meant the fleet have made excellent progress as they now head up the North Sea towards Scotland.

Tricky conditions at start line

Leaden grey skies, torrential rain, a whipping wind and seas alive with white caps – it could only be Britain at the height of summer! But these were the conditions that faced the 27 hardy teams preparing to start the Sevenstar Round Britain and Ireland Race this afternoon.
