First three teams begin Panama Canal transit
16 May 2008
Glasgow: Scotland with style Clipper, Uniquely Singapore and New York have begun their transit of the Panama Canal.
The pilots boarded the yachts at 0830 local time this morning (1330 GMT) and the yachts passed under the impressive Bridge of the Americas before rafting up at the entrance to the locks.
Richard Austen, HM Ambassador to Panama, is travelling with Glasgow: Scotland with style Clipper. It is the first time His Excellency has travelled through the Canal on a yacht and said, “I am very much looking forward to it.”
Last night the Ambassador presented the pennants at the crew prizegiving.

What a fantastic experience - seeing the first 3 clippers on the Panama Canal - and then having a phone call from Joanna on New York. We thought we recognised her at the bow and judging from clothes and wind blown hair, it WAS her! We are having such an amazing adventure with you all. Roll on Jamaica, hope you have a thrilling race. LoL Lloyd Harveys
