First yachts due to arrive at Royal Cork Yacht Club today

28 June 2008

New York - aerial

The first of the ten yachts in the Clipper 07-08 fleet are expected at Royal Cork Yacht Club, Crosshaven, Ireland today. New York, Qingdao and Hull & Humber have been battling it out at the head of the fleet since the departure from Sydney, Nova Scotia 12 days ago and have matched each other across the North Atlantic.

Qingdao and Hull & Humber traded places briefly overnight but by the 0600 GMT schedule the Chinese boat had edged ahead of Hull & Humber.

The first yacht is expected to cross the finish line at approximately 1200 local time (1000 and 1100 GMT) and be alongside at Royal Cork Yacht Club, where a keg of Heineken awaits the thirsty sailors, approximately one hour later.

Estimated arrival times will be updated here.
