Brendan Hall, 27, made sailing his full time career in 2006, originally planning to go in to the luxury superyacht sector. But, while he was doing some training at UKSA (United Kingdom Sailing Academy) he had something of an epiphany and ever since has been focussing on his goal of becoming a skipper in the Clipper Race.
“I was on a tough offshore passage with Sam Fuller, who had been a relief skipper during the Clipper 2002 Race. We sailed through a big Mediterranean storm, with Force 9 to 10 winds – my first taste of weather that severe. Seeing how Sam handled the big boat, managed the crew and remained cool and calm at all times was the turning point. I knew I wanted to be like that, too,” recalls Brendan.
