The Qingdao Administration Centre of Sailing Sport was founded in 2010 to develop the ‘Sailing City’ and get more Chinese involved in sailing. This year will be Qingdao’s fifth time participating in the race.
Qingdao is excited to be taking part in this year’s race after some very successful times in the last four editions of the race as a Team Sponsor and Host Port.
The reputation of Qingdao has been enhanced, a number of ordinary people have gained round the world race experiences, sharing experiences and knowledge of sailing to more people.
This year, the team sponsors aim to have a top three podium finish, increase Qingdao’s international influence and get more attention worldwide by showcasing Qingdao as the ‘Sailing City’ as well as a Chinese developed seashore city.
Located in the core area of the eastern coast of the city, Qingdao Olympic Sailing Centre was the venue for the 2008 Olympic and Paralympic Games events. The century-old Olympics joined hands with century-old Qingdao, injecting new vitality into the beautiful port city and taking this popular tourist destination on another journey as the ‘sailing capital’ of China.
Now, the sailing centre is a comprehensive function area combining sports, tourism, entertainment and food. The welcome and prize giving ceremonies for the Clipper Race crews will be held here again this year.
Meet in Qingdao and sail with passion. The beautiful sailing capital of China is awaiting your arrival!
After skippering New York during the Clipper 11-12 Race, I just have to race and be apart of it again especially with the new bigger faster Clipper Race fleet.
