National Geographic Traveler ranked the island number 2 of the world’s greatest destinations for two consecutive years.

Part of the Province of Nova Scotia, the island is an enchanting place to visit. The jaw-dropping beauty of the Bras d’Or Lakes, Canada’s largest inland sea, lies at its heart and bald eagles soar above. There are breathtaking panoramas at every turn of scenic drive around the lakes and on the Cabot Trail which will take you up into the highlands to the north of the island.

All across Cape Breton Island the arts are a vibrant expression of the region’s heritage. Music, culture and visual arts take centre stage, including one of the largest Celtic music celebrations in the world, Celtic Colours International Festival. History is brought to life at the Fortress of Louisbourg National Historic Site, the largest historical reconstruction in North America.

Sailing on the Bras d’Or lakes, golfing on some of Canada’s top-ranked courses, skiing , surfing in the Atlantic... sports lovers are well catered for. As are food lovers: if you’re ever going to try lobster you have to do it here. And we haven’t even mentioned whale watching, hiking, kayaking, the beaches... there’s plenty more to discover about Cape Breton Island and Nova Scotia.
