Farewell Freo
04 January 2008
We left our berth in Fremantle with mixed emotions: many of the crew were leaving behind family and friends on the quayside, and added to this, the race start, involving the ten yachts racing into the narrow harbour and out again, filled us with trepidation. However, a very good start allowed us to enter the harbour first, clear of the other boats. As we left the harbour the local heroes, westernaustralia2011.com, managed to catch us up to the noisy approval of the crowds, but a quicker spinnaker hoist by Durban 2010 and Beyond meant we regained the lead.
Now, three days later, we are all jostling for position. Sails keep appearing and disappearing on the horizon - there are six boats within ten miles of each other, so the race is wide open.
We would like to thank Fremantle Sailing Club for being such good hosts, and particularly all the volunteers who sacrificed part of their Christmas holidays to assist us. Their enthusiasm and interest was greatly appreciated and they made us feel very welcome.

Well there is still a long way to go to the next port. Have fun and don’t take it too easy hey. I am not to stressed, if you take into consideration that you guys left Durban last due to a problem and ended first that was no mean feat indeed. Keep up the good sailing and good luck. Will keep on checking.
