A locker full of kryptonite
28 September 2007
Some of the crew of Hull & Humber have found a novel way to keep themselves amused on a day with few sail changes…
Life on board Hull & Humber had been totally stress free and I was fully engaged in the sailing and learning about every aspect of the boat. However during the early hours of the morning when I was waking the other watch I heard a noise from the rope locker… it sounded like laughter… the importance of hearing this will perhaps be never fully understood! I alerted the skipper and we went to investigate further… we kept the new information to ourselves as we didn’t want to scare the other crew members. As we opened the water tight door the noise became louder and seemed to be coming from inside the crash bulk head. We looked at each other and realised that the inspection plate needed to be removed… As we slowly prised the plate off the bulkhead we were nearly blinded by the intense bright green light! As our eyes adjusted we could see that we had opened a portal into an underground lair containing mountains of kryptonite… the noise we could hear was indeed laughter… the laughter of Evil Genius Lex Luther! What should the pair do? Inform The Race Director and run the risk of pulling out the race? To make further investigations and foil the evil plans as well as make landfall in Salvador? Send an email to Superman and inform him of our find? Unfortunately our direct communications are down, probably being affected by the dreaded kryptonite… Can the two heroes save Superman and stop world domination by Lex Luther? Why was he there? Was he in cahoots with Durban 2010 and Beyond and westernaustralia2011.com? But questions had already been raised about Sam’s performance up the mast, and whether he is super human… Is it possible that Lex Luther was not after Superman but SuperSam? To be continued…

I suspect that Fiona’s porridge is having a slight effect on the mental stability of the crew having suffered her cooking on several occasions, I’m fully qualified to comment!
You worried about Durban 2010 and Beyond and westernaustralia2011.com being in cahoots with Lex Luther, I’d look closer to home myself, what with a Scots Woman on board.
Did the porridge contain kryptonite?
Got to go now, they are coming to lock the cell for the night, ha ha.

Good job guys. Don’t let the green hue stop you looking in the sailing mirror for the competition - they’re still out there, super powers or not! Suspect that the victuals might have been augmented with very special mushroooms. Be safe. Big love. Tim

Fantastic to see how far you have travelled since Thursday. May the force (albeit green?) stay with you!

We armchair sailors are now experts on ‘wrapped spinnakers’ having viewed the videos from a number of the Clippers on this subject. I would really like to see a video of a spinnaker in all its glory fully extended and doing what it should be doing. A sail the size of 2 tennis courts must be an awesome sight. Any chance of a quick clip of a working spinnaker?
Your reports and blogs really give us a great impression of what you are going through. We feel as if we are there sharing the experience wth you.
Keep up the good work, we are all very proud of you.
The Clipper Web Team says: ‘The latest video clip posted in the multimedia section features great footage of the spinnaker flying on Hull & Humber from the top of the mast.Enjoy!”
