A somewhat unusual day in the office!
09 May 2008
Since our fantastic win two days ago, we have been making our way towards Panama, with a rendezvous waypoint to meet with Liverpool, under engine or sail, depending which is faster to take it in turns to tow each other in an attempt to conserve fuel. Today Liverpool finally caught up. As we saw them sail over from the horizon we heaved too and took the opportunity to take a quick swim to cool off from the Costa Rican Sun. For most of us this was our first big wash since leaving Santa Cruz, and certainly the best way to cool off from the extreme heat below deck.
As Liverpool 08 came along side they joined us for the largest pool party ever held, the Pacific Ocean with some 13,000ft of water beneath us. A strange feeling really, swimming in the middle of an ocean, not knowing what might be lurking underneath you. Unfortunately the large following of dolphins we had been sailing with the night before were nowhere to be seen, but I like to think that’s the closest I have been to swimming with them.
A quick chat with the Liverpool 08 Crew, yet another strange feeling having visitors in the middle of the ocean and Danny and Ben managing to wind down briefly and catch up on the latest fleet gossip. Then it was time to continue on, with everyone back in sailing mode, on the right boat and accounted for, we rigged up the tow lines and were finally on our way with Liverpool closely behind.
