A toast to Hull & Humber

Hull & Humber's Nigel Rose on the helm

Hull & Humber Toast
by Nigel Rose

I would like to raise a toast to a very special lady that we have all come to love over the past ten months and with whom, some crew, I think, have been having an illicit affair.

Some say that she is beamy, but I say she has great curves. Who wants ribs showing through? Many of the fleet have admired her pert derrière, for perhaps more time than they would have wished. Some have even looked back at her bow.

Like most of the girls I know she has terrible problems with her wardrobe: should she wear the windseeker or the Number 1? And only after several try-ons she decides to go for the light weight spinny.

She has muttered that she needs some new clothes as the others are tired and worn, but could she have some colour, as white is so last season?

She has kept us safe and dry (I use the word ‘dry’ in its loosest sense) through some of the most arduous conditions that I have ever encountered.

She has been our home, our life, indeed our world for ten months.

So I would like you to raise a glass to the lady that has been our guardian for the past ten months, to Miss Hull & Humber.

God bless her, and all who sail in her!

What a fantastic way to end your particular love affair with Miss Hull & Humber.  A fitting tribute to a mighty yacht.  May the inner strength she has given you, carry you forward into your new life onshore.  Congratulations on all you have achieved over the last 10 months.
Lots of love from The Goodys

A superb final blog!! May I add my congratulations to all the crew of Hull & Humber on your great achievement and my thanks for keeping me enthralled thro’ the past 10 months as I monitored your progress around the world. Hull born & bred, but now living in Nottinghamshire, I have been proud to relay to family, friends and work colleagues reports of your adventures.

All the very best to you all as you re-adjust to live ashore - tho’ I guess for some at least (Fiona certainly!!) it won’t be too long before you’re back on the high seas!!

David
