Bribery & Corruption

09 May 2008

Hull & Humber's Brendan receives some coaching from the skipper

I don’t know if it is the extreme heat or the amount of time spent onboard since our last stopover that turns the crew to bribery and corruption but there is certainly a lot going on, on this leg.  I think it stems originally from the round the worlders and the odd legger with inside information with regards to personal kit.

After leg 1 when we ran out of squash followed by leg 2 where we purely bought Tang, a horrible, thirst making, powdery, chemical drink, of which we bought far too much and are still having to drink it now.  Since then a few select crew members have taken it upon themselves to have there own supply of Coca Cola.  Of which they have been known to bribe other crew members to write blogs (hence me writing Quents today), sew buttons on, hem slightly long trousers in return for Coke and in this extreme heat most people can be corrupted.

On a more serious note we have changed our watch system to groups of 3 so we now work 2 hours and have 6 off and this is helping keep us all out of the sun.  Our time spent onboard is filled with training new helms, quizzing crew on sail evolutions and attempting to deep clean the boat as well as trying to get to Panama as soon as possible, however I think we may have to go to Costa Rica for fuel, where the girls are hoping to be able to get a large tub of ice cream amongst other cravings, Adrienne and her Lamb Chops!

Rachel (Corrupted, but enjoying an ice cold Coke from Quent’s personal vending machine)
