Luvvvvvving it!

01 May 2008

Hull & Humber's Ken Hordon

Well here we are, South Pacific Ocean, running along the coast of California/Mexico 2150 miles to Panama, visibility down to 100 metres. Very light airs! Trying to squeeze the most energy out of Hull & Humber, really, if it were not the fact that it is warmer during the day (still cold in the evening) we could be sailing off the coast of Yorkshire!

Not seen any land or other shipping for days. But what an experience of a lifetime, especially for me in my later years! I would not have missed it for the world and loving every minute, the camaraderie among the crew, especially from Danny the Skipper and the Round the Worlders who have made us so welcome and worked so hard to get us in the position we enjoy today. From the start of the race it is 24/7. Sixteen crew on four- hour watches and everything must be done, doubly so when it comes to cleanliness as showers and shaves are in short supply.

I have talked before of leaving your “Comfort Zone” at home and being able to adapt. Well, adapt you do and within days you have a new comfort zone. The smell of freshly baked bread in the morning; three good regular meals a day and snacks; and when you can get into your bed! Believe me you sleep! You don’t get anything in life for nothing, hard work is the norm but worth every minute. If you are in the same position as me and want to achieve the ultimate thrill before it is too late, give this Clipper adventure a try, because we are luvvvvvvving it!

Thanks to all for messages of support and our Hull & Humber avid follower Mavis Corner who visited the BOB in Fremantle, “Bullit” is doing great and not suffering seasickness!

Love to all my Family, especially Mum who was 82 on the 28th. Happy Birthday Mum!

Keep those messages of support coming for all of the crew!

Ken Hordon.
