Awesome and Relentless

28 November 2007

Liverpool 08's Mike helming in the Indian Ocean

All I can say is that legs 1 and 2 were just warm up legs, with the wind changing in force so frequently I swear we have done more sail changes already than we did on leg 1. The waves crashing over the bow and soaking the majority of people on deck and sometimes the odd person down below there are 2 words that come to mind Awesome and Relentless. Awesome because the sailing is the best I have ever taken part in. Relentless because the living conditions are hard and I don’t think anybodies oilies will be dry till Christmas. We have had the Yankee 3 up for the longest period of time out of all the head sails and we have decided to leave reef 3 in for that extra bit longer.

There has been a lot of excitement since we left Durban, no more than 4 hours after the start we had our first injury since Liverpool, were Kev decided to go up the mast and head butt it whilst trying to sort the mess Will left up there, but when we saw a bit of blood we thought we should bring him down, and to his horror he realised I was the boat medic and that I would be the one to put the stitches in, but luckily during our stay in Durban one of our new crew is a doctor and he saved the day.

On Day 2 we celebrated Shaun’s 70th Birthday, which I believe everyone thinks is amazing. I also celebrated my mums birthday so happy birthday to Shaun and Mum.

We must say thank you to DJ Rob and everyone else in Durban who made our stay most enjoyable. We said goodbye to Neil, Richard, Helen and welcomed Doc Dave, Shaun, Matt and Traolach onboard. Must go now, because I need to go get us one of those yellow pennants.

Lots of thanks for all the support so far means lots to all of us onboard

Love Mikey.T

No more injuries please, would just like to see you all in Australia in one piece!!

Sounds as though sailing in the Solent won’t be demanding enough for you guys now. Best of luck Liverpool and please keep safe.

Lots of love

4. Alannah Gauld, somerset 28 November 2007

Good ol’ Doc Dave ey, just wish he was that sympathetic at home! Im just hoping he doesnt need stitches himself as he will happily stitch people up, but is a big-girls-blouse when it comes to him! Also he had better get a picture of those Quo pants up there pretty soon!

Good to hear you have good sailing conditions, come on the pool!

From Doc Daves crew at home!

I can see by your position that you have been working very hard with not much rest between those headsail changes.  Your stamina and commitment is relentless and I’m in awe of how well you are doing.  The yellow one will be yours soon enough.  Enjoy the Southern Ocean ride!  Andy

I think this is what you signed up for!  It is great to hear from the Liverpool crew again.

Enjoy the ride and keep safety a priority - Glasgow have had an MOB so please keep those safety lines on.

Fantastic result into Durban and no doubt a great place to visit.  Welcome to the new crew - Matt, I think that mast has your name on it.

Best regards, Peter x

19. Shaun,Margaret & Helen, Lytham St.Annes 29 November 2007

Hi to all the crew,

Thank you all for the super time we shared with you in Durban. Watching you leave was a tremendous sight and Helen & I were on the pier until the boats were just dots on the horizon. Glad you enjoyed the birthday celebrations. Hope that Kev is now recovering.
Have just discovered your position, keep up the good work!! We need to see the pennant flying when you leave Fremantle. We arrived home this afternoon(Thurs.) after being delayed from Durban due to stormy weather and then being on standby for two days we flew back via Heathrow and then shuttle to Manchester. Have enjoyed reading the blog Mickey, keep them coming!!  I will see you in Fremantle.

Love to you all and your fantastic skipper, Margaret & Helen.

20. Irmeli Loukkaanhuhta, Kesalahti, Finland 30 November 2007

Bon voyage Liverpool! The winter is here in Finland totally, snow and frost… Pictures from your november seems so different! Sun and fun I hope, but where´s the wind? Keep going! And Tiina-armastuinen: Taalla koko perhe on siun kera, ukki ja mummikin ovat taysilla mukana!  Siun unelman toteutumisesta tuli meidan muidenkin juttu!!  Imppu ja Vesku and the whole” Fan-club Liverpool” send best wishes to you all!

21. Ed Blunt, Somerset. 30 November 2007

Kev was very lucky, normally Doctor Dave just says “take 2 aspirin, It’ll settle down”, to his patients.

Good luck to all of you,
Ed.

22. Maree Barnett, Sunny Preston - Lancs 30 November 2007

Hi Shaun
Hope you had a fantastic birthday.
We are all missing you.
You’re doing really well with the race - keep the flag flying.
Love to all the crew.
LOL from everyone in Preston.

23. Alannah Gauld (Doc Daves Daughter!), Curry Rivel, Nr Taunton, Somerset 30 November 2007

Hello Liverpool smile
Keep up the good work, and hello to Pie, aka Doc Dave, named after

‘who ate all the pies’

well chaps, i hope that its all going, sorry to hear your a man down, but im sure you’ll get through it, bit of rum and you’ll be fine! Just read ED’s comment about not trusting my dad being the doctor, which to be fair i think that was pretty sympathetic for him, his usual cures are:

1.  Take to brufen
2. Have a hot bath
3. Have a big dump.

raspberry

his cures for everything smile

Love to all
Alannah

24. Riikka Loukkaanhuhta, Nummi-Pusula, FINLAND 30 November 2007

Keep it going, Liverpool - stop zig-zagging and grasp the lead position! Well, just joking, you still have plenty of time to do “The Miraculous Liverpool Wonder” and start carry on to overtake the other boats! By the way, Tiina-Tinttura: how many merry barcaroles have you taught to the other members of the crew? I hope many… As you surely know, it is about the time to start teaching those merry “ Boats in Motion / People in Motion / Liverpool in Motion and especially Ocean in Motion"-songs!!!

Huge hugs
from Riikka and Jari

25. Anne Ardern, Birkenhead 30 November 2007
