Fireworks en route to Durban
04 November 2007
Greetings from Liverpool 08 @ 31.55S / 15.37W on 3/11 & Happy Birthday Dad.
Well here we are 11 days into rehab for the new recruits and more than one thing is becoming clearer (literally). The sweats have finally subsided, hopefully because we have cleared that rather tedious area of high pressure. We are currently enjoying a steady force 7 up the aft - this is enabling us to maintain steady progress in the right direction so I have been told.
My task today is to update you all on our progress, I was deeply flattered until I heard my Watchleader Russ is actually fed up with me trying to write my name in the swell whilst helming – yet another discipline I have clearly failed to grasp….
You will be pleased to hear that we may have found a use for the mysteriously large quantities of white powder that is stuffed into cubbies on board and at teatime today we shall be sampling the results. Watch this space – however, I have been assured by Helen & Tiina that the `Bolinhas` are street legal – Thanks for your translation skills Mrs R.
Morale on the good ship lollipop is extremely high and the inter-watch competition between Crimewatch and Baywatch is very healthy. They may be faster (19 knots Lady Helen), however we are funnier, better looking and can drink more tea than them….
It’s still raining so I will waffle on – we have a saying on board Liverpool 08 - `If a jobs worth doing – its worth dragging out`
Sadly the hallucinations continue, I was ordered below after claiming to have spotted a light blue apparition at the helm on the night of Halloween – possibly a sugar rush brought on by the Halloween sweeties I found in my sailing boots or possibly Mrs P sporting her new bedsheet……ps thank you Fred & Willa they were yummy.
Well its time to sign off as I have another group therapy session – This time its something called `navigation` - Not sure why as we all made it perfectly clear to Ben in Salvador. We all want to go to Durban and quickly at that…..
Ciao Sportfans – Alex Liverpool 08
Ps – Expect some fireworks from us soon – Ba ba boom!

Can’t wait for the fireworks!!! From personal experience I would keep young Alex away from Navigation if I were you!! Looking forward to a few cold ones in Freo in 6 weeks! Go well Liverpool 08 and may the wind be with you.
Alan - Perth WA
2. Andy Perry, Liverpool 05 November 2007
Thank you Liverpool for the blog. We love keeping up with life onboard. So pleased you are all making the most of your adventure and having such good old fashioned fun with sweets in your boots and tea drinking competitions. No doubt this will change to a more fortified type of liquid once you hit Durban. You’ll need some before your Southern Ocean crossing starts!
Much love to everyone and the victualling in Durban is a doddle compared to Salvador!
Andy

Great to hear from y’all .I’m sure all of us who were on leg 1 are as addicted to the 6 hourly positions as I am. I can just see Russ looking at the other 3 ahead of us and convincing himself that we’re really winning! Keep it up I’ve sent some mail to Durban for you - a recipe I found for bean chilli!
Love from the land of steak, fish , chips and beer - you’ll get all those soon
Peter

I’m glad the translation made sense your end, I was a little bit worried about the bit which said “grated cheese is left, you sin” - tell me did you guys sin???! Continue with your high speeds please, the hotel is booked and ready for you all in Durban! How is the Dolphin?

You are definitely in 3rd and possibly second - ignore Qindao.
Excellent blogs - I was worried with the crew changes but you’ve all made up for it.
Keep flying the Liverpool flag as fast and furious as you can - but don’t fall in, there’s sharks in them there waters!
Enjoy rounding the cape. Cheers Peter xx

Alex - It looks like you are having a great trip. Enjoy the ride. My stepfather (Tim Percival) is on Nova Scotia and reckons that he is going to catch you. Make sure you are there first and wave him in to Durban. Mum is already in SA and says that she looks forward to seeing you again.
