Liverpool 08's Race 8 crew

Hello Liverpool 08 fans Mikey here reporting in,

The stay in Hawaii was a very stressful and torrid time for very few people; those people were the staff of Clipper Ventures having to deal with the two dismastings that occurred during Race 7. I believe that they sorted the mess out very well; we can’t exactly complain too much - Hawaii is a lovely place.  Many of the crew managed to escape around the island or to other islands, where as I had to stay and visit the physio every other day to sort out my hip injury which I sustained during the last race, which reminds me don’t fight the spinny pole and forestay at the same time you will never win. The days I did spend by myself were spent on many beaches around the island, where I managed to catch up on some reading not much though, kept on getting distracted by the sites…. like the beautiful pipeline up on north shore.

How are we going to improve on the last couple of results? This question is a very popular one from my family and friends as they now feel part of the team, the answer I reply with is that we need to raise our game more as the other boats have. We have to realise that this now is no longer a race with just one experienced sailor on each boat but there are up to 8 maybe 9 experienced sailors therefore it feels like more of a professional race than the amateur one that we signed up for.

We are still enjoying it, how can we not, we are learning how to cope with ourselves in different situations and how to react to other people. Everyday, sometimes just in one watch we see or do something amazing, dolphins are still cool but whales are better and if I see a shark that will be a bonus. Big time!

Lots of love

Mikey

Great to hear from Liverpool 08 again and that you’re on the road to recovery Mikey. I hope that you were all pleased to hear that Liverpool beat Arsenal last night 4-2.
I’m sure everyone on board is knuckling down and giving 100%. The round the worlders will be teaching the leggers and bringing them upto speed. The most important thing is that you all continue to enjoy yourselves and success will follow.
Good Luck and stay safe,
Roy

Great start to this leg!. Watch out Qingdao only 10 miles behind!.  Looks like you had a great time in Hawai and that got well rested.  Big Hola to Emilio, not sure you know my mother in law is from, guess where, Liverpool.  I would love to be there with you all.  You need to teach me some real one-handed spinnaker sailing when you are back.  Enjoy the experience with such a fantastic group.  Will keep mentally pushing for Liverpool during the long night watches in the Pacific....Best - Pachi

I met two members of the Liverpool ‘08 at a Starbucks out here in Kunia, HI and since then I have been checking your website to see what kind of progress your team has been making.  I think what you’re all doing is an amazing undertaking and am so jealous! What a great experience!! I hope you know you have one more fan routing for you all over here in Hawaii!!
