Waiting for the waves

05 December 2007

Second week of life at 45 degree angle (mild exaggeration) and we are all well nested back to our (sometimes soaking wet) bunks. As has been said, it hasn’t been quite what we expected of this leg, but the ever breaking toilet seats, being head butted by potatoes strategically placed in the fruit nets, flying utensils and the occasional crew member attempting to ascend the hill better known as the saloon floor, keep us all alert and amused. Will started preparing for his stint as the new Blue Peter presenter by teaching us how to tie the handcuff knot and constructing a light sabre out of kitchen rolls, torch, .75 spinny fabric and a golf ball. The force is definitely with us.

The culinary delights of Leg 3 have so far included skinning and picking the bones of tinned chicken curry, tomato ketchup crisps and skewed but artistic port tack scones and muffins, which have enabled us to admire from a far the passing killer whales (just amazing) and soaring albatross and not to resort to the rods and nets.

On a personal note I’d like to take this opportunity to congratulate my cousin Janne for the latest addition to our family, looking forward to getting to know your little princess, and wish happy birthday to my dad, thank you for everything, I wouldn’t be here if it wasn’t for you. Piblokto Helen, not long now, can’t wait to find out which one the bump is! Also, a belated birthday wish to Mikey’s sister Ali and hello to the Cowes posse from Ben.

Tomorrow Finland celebrates her 90th independence day and I can’t think of a more of an appropriate place to toast her than this great ocean. Hyvaa Itsenaisyyspaivaa Suomi.

Now if we could only see those 40 foot waves behind us, life would be pretty perfect.

Tiina

It has been really interesting to hear of the ups and downs of life at sea. What great team spirit you have!
We have been charting your progress at Culworth Primary School and are willing you on.
After much interesting discussion, Freddie and his classmates have decided that you need to eat more tuna to speed you along.
We look forward to hearing more about your adventures when Alex returns home.
Meanwhile we wish you all well and .......Go, Liverpool Go!

Greetings to all on Liverpool O8. I’ve been away and so have missed your blogs. I see you’re currently lying 9th. Now that you’ve lulled the rest of the fleet into a false sense of security it’s time to pounce. I know you can do it, dig deep and another podium space beckons. I wish I could come and help you . Good Luck. “Remember the Alamo”

8. Sue Haslam, Chester 09 December 2007

Hi boys and girls, hope you are getting dried out - over half way now, so stop messing about and make that boat GO! - you can still catch the rest, but we’d like to see a clear lead, not a nail biting finish!!! Every one’s rooting for you. Stay safe and happy. Love Sue x

9. Helen Jones, Cardiff 12 December 2007

Piblokto! Good to hear from you and that you are in good spririts. You and team Liverpool are doing amazingly well and I often think of you as I lie on the sofa watching Philip & Fern on TV in the morning and wonder where you are in the World and what the conditions are like. Tomato ketchup crisps are the devils food but hopefully they have some vitamin C in them that will keep the scurvey at bay!!

Still doing loads of work on the house and have had the bedrooms upstairs replastered and painted. Still no twinges or contractions so looks like the bump could come on Xmas day! Will let you know whether it’s pink or blue as soon as we know!

Keep laughing and I hope you’re finding time to fit in some pressups and sit ups in!!!

Love

Helen, Chris and bump
