Crew Blog

And now, the end is near…

19 October 2007

New York skipper Jerry plays Neptune for his crew

“Not so,” Gary points out, “It’s scorching hot, sweaty and we’re going slow”.
That’s probably got something to do with the doorstep peanut butter and jelly sandwich he just ate - nobody could move after something that huge.

“I wasn’t in a rush to get to Brazil anyway,” exclaims JR.
His mates are probably pleased to have a couple of extra days in his house without him.

“Well I can’t wait to see the back of Barry’s iPod … enough now Whitney!” adds Nate.
Let’s hope someone brings an alternative iPod on Leg 2 otherwise they’ll be jumping overboard to escape Nate’s sounds.

“Al! Al! Give us a quote for the blog” I ask.
“No time for that, sheets to run, sails to sew, boat parts to repair.”

“I’ll be sorry to see you go,” states Jerry, “it’s been emotional.”
Not sure if he just means me or all the leggers…

Bob butts in, “I’d just like to thank Kenny for the port we drank at our King Neptune ceremony”.
“Was that port?” V pipes up, “it’s been so long since I had alcohol - I had no idea”.

Tony puts his head up from his slumber position, “Tobasco with blue food colouring is yummy!”

I am unable to rouse ‘Dave on Deck’ but needless to say he is as happy as a pig in mud.

And so we leave you almost at the end of Leg 1 with this thought from Justyn who was recently keelhauled:
“Amateur ocean racing isn’t about life and death except when Shazzy is helming whilst singing ‘Paradise by the Dashboard Light’.”

If anybody finds a white Helly Hansen top in mid Atlantic on Leg 7, Barry Painter would like it back. He lost it off the transom whilst doing his dobi (washing).

We wish Aidan ‘Good Luck’, looking for love, wandering Brazil.

Shazzy xx

Well done Jerry, nicely pulled back mate, bet that first beer tastes sweet. I bet you pulled around that grt seawall & stated ‘Coming Round for a Seven Zero Niner.’ Your ears should have been burning a couple of weeks ago,I was in the Portsmouth Hoy with Rob & Martin havin a good old chin wag.
Have a good rest mate you deserve it.(Thats if you get one, I bet there’s repairs to do.) Anyhow will be following you all the way mate, its kind of becoming a ritual turning on the race viewer about midday & reading the blog.Sounds like a cool crew you have, noticed they’d been cooking pizza & bread from scratch, now theres a smell to make a man hungry. Drink lots, be merry & win. Take care & good luck to all you New Yorkers.
Steve
