The joys of boat prep, New York style!

15 September 2007

NY Justyn and Colin 9/11

An amazing sight!  Ten Clippers in the Albert Dock awaiting the start of the Clipper 07-08 Race.  To the public eye – lean, mean racing machines prepared and ready to storm around the globe; to the Skippers and crew – days of sweat, toil and duck tape!

On September 11 Justin organised a remembrance ceremony.  Colin and Justin made speeches and a member of the Liverpool Royal Opera sang ‘You’ll Never Walk Alone’.

Nate’s been busy making strops and giving strop lessons whilst others are just getting plain stroppy.

Sian and Tony have been B&Qing, searching the shelves for anything that could prove useful or make life more comfortable onboard.  So far the fruits of their endeavours are locker lights – Yee Haa!

Tony’s also our medic.  He’s been checking supplies and ensuring we have enough alcohol withdrawal drugs on board.

We haven’t seen much of Dave – he’s had his head and other body parts in the engine and the bilge for most of the week.

V is for ‘victualling’ and what a good job she’s done.  We shouldn’t go hungry.  She’s also got Bob tied to the kitchen sink and trained as galley slave.

Gary had a memorable day talking to 180 children at St. Michael’s Catholic School about the Clipper adventure.

Kenny was around for a while – I must have missed him when I was shopping for pompoms or up the rigging.

And Jerry, our Skipper - he’s been organising us all, attending interesting meetings and dinners and making very polite conversation!
