And We’re Off Again

24 April 2008

Supporters wave farewell from Santa Cruz harbour

Day 1 of Race 9 finds Nova Scotia faffing around with our sail configuration just in time to go across the start line like true professionals - hopefully nobody noticed.

Well what a stopover, we’ve all had a ball. The yacht club has been truly hospitable and managed to feed and water us on a number of occasions, or point us in the right direction when we needed services outside the club. The ladies and chaps in the bar, kitchen and office deserve a well earned rest - thank you. The goodie bag has already been devoured - much appreciated.

It’s been great to have a stopover where so many were generally interested in sailing and had strong ties to the sea. I’m sure we’ve all exchanged one adventure or another with the salty seadogs of Santa Cruz. It was a great send off with all the waving and familiar faces on the shoreline or in boats and I’m sure many of us will plan to come back. Nick was also raving about the hospitality of Tom and the Santa Cruz Rowing Club, who took him for a memorable row early this morning. He sends his thanks.

As mothers we can confirm that the Yeehaa System has once again been utilised to incentivise the helm which seems to be working - lots of noise above deck whilst we try to battle with all the provisions below, trying to store the last few bits in dry places.

Once again a big thanks to all in Santa Cruz, goodbyes to Andrea, Andrew, Brendan and Susan, and a big hello to Libby and Sue who have just joined us.

Hi Cath Mck, been tracking your progress, seem to be doing well. I am sure it is not as simple as clicking on to race viewer. On the screen it all looks so tranquil. Another Saturday in London, Portobello...Yipeee… followed by footy (up the Hammers ) and now a night out on the town.I am sure your day is very different but more rewarding. Missing Thursdays chats...but thinking of your fantastic achievement… you could have inspired me to run the London Marathon.. (Maybe).. Keep well..blog soon.. PW.xx.
