Hey Macaroni!
09 May 2008
As we settle into our motor sailing regime a new watch system has been
devised with 4 watches each doing 2 hourly stints. This enables the crew to have 6 hours off for rest, recuperation and working parties. The watches are named after North American Tribes - Blackfoot, Mohawk, Apache, and Sioux (you can probably guess which watch Terry is in).
We are still motor sailing alongside Qingdao and are heading towards
Herradura Bay in Costa Rica, some 500 miles away, for a probable fuel stop. We have just raised our headsails and are now sailing at over 9 knots towards those Costa Rican cold beers!
Our feathered passenger has stayed with us again all day but took flight (or fright) when we raised the headsails. Undeterred, he is desperately trying to work out where he can land again and has made many trial approaches - so far unsuccessfully.
Both boats had a brief swimming stop this afternoon and we were able to give Marcus tea and biscuits and to send back a food parcel of powdered milk as they had run out. Their request for olive oil was declined as this is a precious commodity on board.
The extra leisure time has led to an outbreak of cooking with the two watch leaders making flapjacks and Terry recreating very successfully his Mothers bread pudding. Despite the hot weather, Kate was asked to make her special Macaroni cheese again and the Nova Scotia cheese stocks are now completely depleted - but what a way to go! We had planned to create our own Macaroni song based on “Hey Macarena” and this is still work in progress.
