Keeping the boat moving in fickle airs
29 April 2008
We awoke this morning to a glorious and sunny day; we alone seemed to have had this weather as the rest of the fleet were apparently sailing through thick fog - was this an omen? All efforts were again directed on keeping the boat moving through light and very fickle airs. Every sail in our arsenal was put to use multiple times during all watches, with everyone making a conscious effort to monitor the opposition’s movement via the scheds throughout the day!
Meanwhile in the galley we prepared a lovely Pasta Pesto with a Sauce Rustica (tomatoes, onions and olives..couldn’t get more rustic than that!) And tonight’s offering will be a homely cottage pie, which although simple, will be made with the greatest of care (fresh carrots will feature!) Cottage pie may seem an odd choice when we have referred to baking sunny days, but on the water the nights are still freezing here. This may be a little too much information, but Catherine came on deck for night watch wearing: thermal leggings, marl under vest, two thermal tops, one fleece (complete Henri Lloyd rain ensemble) not forgetting mid layer salopettes and jacket topped off with full foulies and toque!!!
As we write, action on deck has resulted in a small tear in our .75 spinnaker. Once again we can look forward to an evening in our saloon, participating in the Nova Scotia Sewing Club as one big happy family, just like The Waltons. Good Night Jon Boy!!

Dear Catherine, and all the crew of the Nova Scotia. I hope you enjoyed your stop in Santa Cruz, while everyone else was playing catch up (Well done for coming 2nd in that leg)
It’s good to see that you are getting some sewing practice in (Colin has said that he can send you some Lavender bags to start sewing if you want!) . Enjoy the sunshine, the culinary delights, and we are looking forward to the “Night watch fashion parade” once you are back in Blighty.
Keep up the good work,
Lots of love
