Rick’s birthday

07 May 2008

Nova Scotia's Rick reads his cards from back home

Our first non-racing day has been very eventful on Nova Scotia.  First & foremost it’s Rick’s birthday. Our Foredeck All Star has had a relaxing day lying in the sun, listening to his iPod & reading his cards from his wife & children: Landra, Robyn, David & Nathan. We, his surrogate family onboard, have done our best to make this a special day on the high seas for him; complete with birthday cake, present, choir standard singing & card.

The next big event of the day has got to be Cap’n Rob’s demonic visit to the galley. As Dan, my co-Mother, is currently out of action due to a poorly finger, Rob & some of my crew mates kindly stepped into the fray & have helped me with mothering duties today.  It’s hotter than Hades in the galley but that didn’t stop Skip from tearing the place apart, ooohing & tutting in disgust like Aggie from “How Clean is Your Home” and scrubbing away until every millimetre was gleaming. He’s now guarding the galley like a rabid rottweiler and I get squirted with the All Purpose if I so much as drop a breadcrumb on the counter.

Our nautical extravaganza of the day was a beautifully choreographed and perfectly executed rendezvous with Qingdao.  We now have them where we want them, on a lead and behind us!

To fill the next 8 days, before we get to Panama, sailing school starts
tomorrow.  Classes so far are:

- Love Yourself Love Your Winches
- An introduction to Apparent Wind and
- Backgammon for Beginners

Buenos Nachos Amigos from your Mothers of the Day:

Dan (Vice President of Wet Vac)
Rob (CEO & President of Cleaning)
Catherine (Senior Executive Cake Maker)
Mel (Spaghetti Director)
Nick (Chief Designer & Creator of Custard)
Nina (Delegator Extraordinaire!)
