Bermuda Triangle. Weird.
30 May 2008
‘So where exactly is the Bermuda triangle?’ This is a question frequently asked since Monday. As no one exactly seems to know; we’ve agreed somewhere between Bermuda, which is a kind of obvious start point, mainland America and the edge of the Caribbean Sea. Anyway we’ve all agreed we are in it. So the next question… ‘What is the Bermuda triangle?’ Well this isn’t such a simple question but we are sure of one thing, it’s affecting us on the boat.
The early signs were small; where has Gary’s crew shirt gone? Bermuda Triangle. What’s that light on the horizon? Ghost ship – Bermuda Triangle; and so on and so forth. But, most worryingly of all, the main thing the Triangle has made disappear is the wind.
Since Saturday Lady Qing had been riding high with new crew, high hopes and a great head wind, then the Triangle struck. It’s now been 13 hours since the wind disappeared and we are no closer to solving the mystery.
Oddly, despite the disappearance of the wind, there have been apearances of other unexplained objects. There was the world war two U-boat spotted on the horizon. Some said it was just a cargo ship but we knew the Triangle too well to believe that. Then the moving lights in the night sky. The obvious answer: shooting stars, but we are a wise crew and know there is more to it.
As we maintain our heading towards New York we continue to ponder the mysteries of the deep. Perhaps we will solve the unexplained. Perhaps not. The Triangle may have taken our wind and with it our race lead position but Lady Qing will keep us safe and perhaps as we pass Bermuda, as a parting gift we may even get the wind back!

Hello Qingdao.
We have been following your heroic achievements over the last 6 legs; now even through the notorious Bermuda Triangle! The loss of wind was of course down to a partial suspension of the laws of physics, a feature of the area. The reason none of the yacht race members disappeared was due to the presence on YOUR team of a man of great charm (’he’s magick!’, as we say in Glasgow) - Christian Lambie!!!
We salute him and you.
May the wind favour the Qingdao on this your last leg;
a strong waft for your craft from the aft.
Love from Sheila, Davi, Ez, Tony etc.
