Ravi Shankar comes to visit
11 April 2008
Yesterday was filled with anticipation. Jones the Curry had earlier announced an intention to feed our hungry mouths with something hot and spicy, and expectations were therefore understandably raised. Then, some time before the appointed hour, Ravi Shankar was helicoptered in and started playing his sitar. After listening to his music for what seemed like days, the feast began. None was left unsatisfied and even Emma suspended her usual extra-vehicular non-digestive activities to partake. The atmosphere was authentic and Mrs Patak would have been envious.
Today’s food comes from the renowned Jessop Café. Served on time and in good quantities, the food is of course warmly welcomed. If it’s not, the proprietor stabs you with a blunt kitchen knife. It’s like the Soup Nazi of Seinfeld fame has decided to join us, on a bad day. If you don’t collect your dish within a five-minute pre-allocated window you starve. Your bowl (emptied or not) is removed from you shortly thereafter. It’s a unique experience. Everyone should try it.
Birthday celebrations for Ant and Teddy have finally died down, as has the surprise that Ant has birthdays at all. I think we had all assumed that, like the rest of the Pixies, he didn’t get any older.
Oh yes - the sailing. Well, the confuser (the PC, not the skipper) tells us we are heading for the Murray Fracture Zone; named to give comfort to lost seafarers no doubt. The good news is it’s actually on the route we’re trying to follow (a rarity on board as those of you who follow the race tracker will know) and we have both sun and wind. Hawai’ian suntans are being topped up as I write. And that’s my cue to go work on mine.
