Second place and you know you like it!
08 May 2008
The last time we wrote to you we were mid battle with Nova Scotia, in the true to the name, “peaceful waters of the Pacific”. We were so close battle cries (and taunts) could be heard from either boat as sails were dropped, hoisted and dropped …and urr, hoisted again… in the ever fluky winds. For the birds above, I am sure they assumed we had all been at the bottle with our constant course changes and tacks to catch the slightest breath of wind. The truth is we had been at the bottle, it was Cal’s birthday and boy was it celebrated in style. We started with a fine bottle of Moet and I am sure our drop for Neptune put the seas on our side as we began to pull away having been 4 miles behind. The whole crew really did pull together as a team with slick sail changes and great rail work; I am sure aided by Cal’s birthday present of Rum and Coke that called all to get as much weight on that leeward rail! As night fell and sun rose it was clear we had left them in our wake and had it in our grasp to take Glasgow and New York… and well the rest is history, of course aided by another bottle of Moet for Debbie’s birthday!
Now we are back with our New Scotland friends having just had a dip in our very own pool with a deep end in the region of 3km, (and yes even Emma swam despite her fear of gold fish). Everyone now, I think, is feeling somewhat pooped after Tarzan antics into the sea and relishing in the fact they were not eaten by sharks! All in all, an experience I will never forget.
Anyway I feel I should leave you now as I must tend to the fishing line (fingers crossed for no more seagulls). Beard growing coming on well, (really is starting to look ginger… Dad you will be so proud!). Hope you are all well in what ever you are doing.
