Slam life on the Lady Qing

01 October 2007

QD Slam Watch en route to Salvador

As the lady Qing looks after us we are fortunate to have a little time away from racing to share a few points on the Slam Watch Way of Life (SWWOL). Life on board is a bit different to the one we knew before, so here are a couple of pointers that you can try at home (under adult supervision) to join us on our journey.

1) Periodically throw yourself around the kitchen while preparing food for 15 people
2) Flush your toilet 25x or 50x (depending) and put all paper used in a brown paper bag and throw out of your window.
3) Write down what you are doing and where you are every hour, and calculate how far you have travelled.
4) Share your Bedroom with 6 total strangers.
5) Always refer yourself in the third party: e.g. -
Gary ‘Christian do you have the sheet (rope)’
Christian ‘Christian has the sheet’
Gary ‘Ok your sheet Christian’
Christian ‘Ok Christian’s sheet’
You can try this down the pub or even over the family dinner
6) Call your friends every 6 hours to see where they are (do not panic if they do not answer; that will happen 99.9% of the time)
7) On NO account engage in any meaningful conversation whatsoever

The photo is of the Slam Watch - please vote for your Slam sailor of the week. Please email Zoe at Clipper and she will tell the Badger the results for this coming Friday. The sailor of the week will get a prize.
Photo left to right: Bridget, Carrie at the back, Christian, Gary, Carlo at the mast, Olivia, Ant.
Also: what is wrong in this picture?
Our next competition will follow shortly and Glam Watch will be up soon.
Having a great time in the Canaries. Hope you are enjoying our adventure at home.
Just a heads-up to you all, we do not have access to the Clipper web page on board.
Enjoy your day and smile even for just a moment. You could be here on Slam Watch!

1. Steve Pang, Ohio, USA 01 October 2007

I knew it you’re facing the wrong way!

As for Slam Sailor of the week, it’s a close run thing between Carrie (with her saucy top) or Christian (for the man grip on the grinder) or Gary (stomach nicely held in). I’ll let Zoe know the result.

hi guys guess you may not get this but however if you do or for all the other Qingdao’es ? there is only 47 miles seperate our lovely yacht to 3rd place so the racing or floating around is really close i praying for wind have you offered anything up to the wind gods they do like a sacrafice now and again so i here ? ... by the way have you tried rowing or swiming out front and towing her i am sure you could get an extra 0.0001 knot that way...!
All the best keep the faith xxxx

3. Derren Felgate, Colchester,UK 01 October 2007

Now I know the skipper is a party animal, but Brazil is a much better location than the Canaries....... :o) Get blowing on them sails guys and gals, you’ll catch the rest.

4. David Paulsen, Washington, DC 02 October 2007

Well my vote for Slam sailor of the week is of course Carrie.  Partly because she is a salty sailor, but mostly because she is so darn cute in her warm weather sailing attire.

5. Louise Pearl, Hong Kong 02 October 2007

Will have to go for Slam Sailor of the week to Mr Gary Jessop.  I’m biased - sorry.

6. Jen Hogg, Glasgow 02 October 2007

No ‘meaningful conversation’ - quite right this is a race not a tea party plenty of time for that when you reach Brazil!!!!! What’s wrong with the picture - no one is being sick and that sounds like a requirement!
