A new slant on life

28 May 2008

Uniquely Singapore's Ian and Michele (Doris) get used to living on an angle

Well, I cannot believe that we are already into my second leg of this race. It has gone so quickly.  After our initial and rather soft introduction with our downwind leg we are now experiencing our second period of upwind sailing.

The conditions of this are so different that it is takes time to adjust, which explains the slight lack of blogs from us.

With upwind sailing the boat is at a permanent slant, often extreme, which makes walking around the boat, topsides or down below a whole different scenario.  Whilst topsides, I have taken to crawling everywhere… not particularly elegant, but very effective. Down below I hang on to every available grab rail and pretty much swing my way to the next one.

The doctor on board is concerned with the funny walk that we have all developed and has named it ‘slanty sea disease’.  He assures us that it will completely disappear once the sea is not at such an angle.

Today the seas are slightly calmer and full oilies are no longer required.  We are all adjusting well to the conditions and appetites are once again returning.

Love to all
Michele (Doris)

so is the ‘slanty sea disease’ a bit like the affliction that the
reservoir sheep suffer from?!

Hi Michele

Sad to hear your legs have gone wonky - and there was I worried your back was iffy! Sounds great fun

Also when are you going to crack the whip, tell the captain he has got it wrong and get your fast yacht competing up there with the leaders? No pressure - but I expect to see you first boat into Cork

Reservoir sheep!  Tina’s funny and it did make me laugh this morning (June 11th - a bit late updating comments).  Feeling a bit wobbly myself this morning but nothing like you’re experiencing - OMG!  Well done & not long to go now!  Enjoy Halifax & Sydney!  Luv Sam x

6. Andrea, deepest darkest Dorset 18 June 2008

Hi Doris - great new name! Sounds like you are having a helluva time, keep on enjoying and don’t end up like the reservoir sheep, I remember them ewell! Cheers, Andrea and Chris. X
