Baz is onboard

We are into the Pacific Ocean, somewhere that I knew from school, books, atlases and TV documentaries only! But now the crew and I are actually out here sailing Uniquely Singapore to Hawaii. It might be early days but we have a beautiful blue sky, a calm sea with light airs. Some of us have managed to remove layers of clothing, which kept us very warm in the Yellow sea. This by contrast was cold, grey with northerly swells that at times were interesting on the helm.

Swapping, mid layers, thermals and balaclavas for crocs, sun-glasses and bare feet is a most pleasant respite. The constant supply of drinks from the ‘mummies’ has changed from tea, chocolate and the crew favourite Milo, to squashes and cold water.

A personal note: The hospitality and warm welcome of the Qingdao people was awesome and overwhelming. From the moment the yachts arrived to we departed there was a continuous stream of locals taking photos and asking for autographs. That was strange and weird!!! The award ceremony was truly magnificent and something that I shall treasure for a long time to come. So a big thank you from me to Qingdao.
