Time for reflection

Uniquely Singapore seen from above

And then we all began to realise the enormity of what we are doing… This morning at 5am, some four days or more since we last saw land, Graham casually mentioned that the nearest continent is Africa and today’s weather files give us data as far as the Equator! Gulp. It’s not that we were unaware of our position but the reiterating of this fact happened to coincide with what may well be the first opportunity to sit and think, just think, since we set off from Liverpool.

The boat is great for helping put things into perspective, though we all agreed today that there is remarkably little time for thinking about anything other than sailing the boat.  We sat on the rail today in the glorious sunshine and discussed tactics but as the conversation abated, it was interesting to note how many people were content to just sit silently and lookout to sea. We’re a terrific team. We get on famously. We care about sailing fast and looking after our beautiful boat and after each other but best of all, thanks to a wonderful ethos instilled in us by our skipper, Mark, and adopted by everyone, we care about having an amazing time and our main aim remains to be at the finish having had the time of our lives. I am happy to report that we seem be achieving our goal so far.

Michelle. Just seen your excellent blog. I am so happy that you are having a great time and racing hard and that team spirit is so good as we had all hoped but fully expected before the start in our training and other interactions. Have fun and keep racing hard. I so wish i was there with but am in spirit!
