A busy day on Midway!

21 March 2008

Eileen Moore services a winch on westernaustralia2011.com

Whilst waiting for our gearbox mounting plate to arrive by plane, we cracked on with a list of jobs that seemed endless!

There’s everything on the list, from winch servicing to creating masthead strops, drying out and fixing spinnakers to testing new fuel transfer systems. Then there’s fuel, food, water and making new sails for our Jury Rig.  We had strict instructions for westernaustralia2011.com to start our duties at 08.30; however, with the beer flowing at the previous nights bowling, start time became Midway time – anywhere between 08:30 and 10:00!

Three of our crew have decided not to join us on our passage to Hawaii, they are flying back on the now empty supplies aircraft to put in an order for 10 Hawaiian breezes upon the big blue boats arrival.  Chris, Eileen and Paul will be sorely missed, leaving them ashore was very sad indeed.

With our passage to Hawaii now underway, the jobs list is set to get even bigger post rig failure.  Once on dry land, jobs will include replacing the pulpit, fixing our broken spinnaker pole, and the small task of taking the mast out of the boat, making it whole again and then re-stepping.

Better go do some work…!
Downtime in Hawaii will have to come in the form of a holiday in years to come.

Well Jack, we all set out for an adventure and you certainly got one!  I wish I had been with you for the albatross, to have walked amongst Flappy’s cousins would have been amazing.  I’m sure Bruce would have a suitable book for this.  I think of you all everyday, share your disappointments and your triumphs how ever large or small.  Take care my friends and wish you sun, sunshine and a few drinks in Hawaii.  Love Lizzie xx

Don’t think there will be any downtime Jack once you get in Hawaii… Work, work and more work
