Bonjour from Bay of Biscay - 23 September 2007
23 September 2007
Bonjour from the Bay of Biscay. We have not long left La Rochelle and after a near miss with Singapore over the start line our spirits are high we climb into second place… we think. Stormy watch is on Deck trimming every few minutes as we gain on Liverpool who is meters away yelling friendly banter.
Our stay in La Rochelle was heaven. It is a beautiful city with friendly people, great seafood, wine, cheese, croissants & our staple food on the boat, chocolate. Our victuallers, Judy & Billy spent hours in the markets making sure we are well stocked for the next 3 weeks. The sail maintenance team, Lyn and Myself have done some hand sewing on the mainsail and staysail to reinforce some areas.
This morning, just after we slipped from the dock Roger became the 5th victim of our crew needing emergency dentistry in La Rochelle. With a couple of hours floating around before the start gun, we had Frank the Dentist on Jamaica transferred to our boat and the deck was turned into a surgery. With Freddie the ships cat propped under his neck, Roger was given a temporary filling to see him to Salvador.
So far, 40 miles covered and 4160 to go. Until tomorrow, Au revoir
