Calm seas, banana muffins and a birthday

Sunday’s dawn was spectacular; calm seas and very little wind, which is not ideal for racing but wonderful for the soul. It was a great day for me as I was on mother watch with Billy and therefore enjoyed a full night’s sleep. What could be better than banana muffins for breakfast on deck in full sunshine? Further good news was that our email system is now working and we found out the ‘Aussie Rules’ footy scores for the Grand Final. Will the good news never end? My team, Geelong’, won by a record amount!! Still the good news flowed… WA maintained the lead over night; but the next few days are going to be a real challenge. We should sail between the Canary Islands within the next 24 hours providing wind appears. The generator has been working overtime charging mobile phones in anticipation of possible contact with our loved ones.

It’s Pete’s birthday today, our first on board, and we have gone all out with Jacks fashioning a ‘Borat Mankini’ together with a flag card for him. A few of the male crew modelled it yesterday – it/they looked super! A chocolate cake and candles with lunch constituted the ‘party’. We had a couple of uninvited but welcome guests – two huge whales – who took a look at us, decided they didn’t like the curried eggs and with a flick of their tails waved us g’day. Magnificent!
