Food on board - 06 October 2007
07 October 2007
We are moving again at a good speed, at last, with the medium weight spinnaker flying proud (even if it is inside out). Nothing extraordinary to report so I thought it might be interesting to talk about food. I guess we have all done the monthly shop at the supermarket, well imagine multiplying that by 10 and you get some idea of the challenge of victualling the big blue boat.
2 weeks out from La Rochelle we still have a few fresh vegitables but meals are mainly concocted from tins, jars or mixes. Saying this we have eaten well and the Mothers have been very creative (I am really looking forward to the curry and pea bread that has just been baked). Last night it was John Boy’s and my turn in the galley and we resorted to a very simple Chilli Con Carne - the sailor’s staple diet
One of the major challenges is finding space for all the food and we often have to wait until someone gets up from their bunk to retreive that last ingredient which is stored under there.
Looking forward to Salvador, this is going to present the extra challenge of restocking in foriegn supermarkets (I am assuming Sainsbury’s are not represeted there?) and transacting in Portugese. Who knows what supplies we will end up with but we are confident that our Mothers will turn them into something delicious.

Good afternoon all from a very warm and sunny Blackpool today. By the sound of all the eating going on you will all need a challenge soon to get rid of the weight you will be putting on. Reading all the blogs though, it sounds like there is far to much partying going on as well, thought you were there to work not to enjoy yourselves !!!!!!!!.
My friend from Freemantel said it’s now warm enough to swim in the Indian ocean so something to aim for.
Keep on trucking.

Hope your fishing is doing better than it it did in Norway. Take care mate. Andy & Nee

Hey Jude, I would imagine this photo was taken before you heeled over and all the pasta went flying through the air covering all and sundry - even the nav station walls! What did you guys end up eating then? Keep smiling
Love Pam

Great stories and pictures - do keep them coming. It has been a terrific recovery to be climbing up the leader board, and two more places are in your sights. Well done.

Congratulations on the focus and good work going on to get BBB up towards the front of the fleet. You must be at or in the ITCZ by now so I guess it’s all about sailing between the squalls and lulls eh. By the way, sailing the kite inside out is a very good strategy for long distance voyages as it protects the material against too much ultra violet on one side, so well done!
Only local sailing I can think to tell you about is that “Macquarie Innovation” is heading back to Shallow Inlet [near Wilsons Prom] later this month to try to recapture the world speed record, I will let you know how she gets on.
Best wishes to all
