Halifax - Our second home!

13 June 2008

westernaustralia2011.com at the D250 race start

After a few days of well earned rest and the enjoyment of being showered with kindness and warmth, rivers of beer and an abundance of food, we were ready to set off again.  But this time it’s only a short 250nm race.

It was sad to leave Halifax as it was definitely one of our favourite stopovers and
we are now sailing towards Sydney, Nova Scotia. This short race - in honour of Canada’s 250th year of democracy – has begun with a promising mix of sunshine and wind. What, no fog!!

The race start was right in front of Halifax Port with waves, cheers and the sounds of drums and bagpipes as we left. Nova Scotia (the yacht) was out in the lead.  It was a great sight with all the yachts heading out of the channel, tacking and gybing, trying to keep out of the way of the huge container ship creeping up behind us.

However, lady luck (or was it Martin’s tactics?) put us in front position rounding the first mark and we are pleased to say that we are still holding this lead with Uniquely Singapore not too far behind.

Not even a day to go, so the pressure is on. Will there be another chance for a shout of Aussie, Aussie, Aussie on the podium? Well we’re certainly giving it a good try.

Go BBB team! Another great result. I’ve just been to Gallipoli to see where Anzacs and Brits struggled in 1915. I thought of Bruce and his Anzac 250 an age ago. Keep up the fighting and win the last legs. You know you can do it and so do we.
