The Visit of Spiderman (to sea or not to sea)
27 April 2008
There appeared a dark and stormy silence around us whilst the crew were quietly going about their business getting ‘Old Blue’ moving along under light spinnaker conditions towards Panama.
Suddenly the silence was altered by a phenomenon nobody could fathom. A swirl of a single black cloud appeared like a swarm of bees heading straight for our world racing across the sky, obliterating the sun and omitting a gossamer substance to form a web between forestay and mast. What was it? Could it be a bird? No. Could it be a cloud? No. Could it be a fish? No. It was Spiderman. Twisting and turning in his own web, beckoning us to join him. We were spellbound by his agility and grace as he leapt freely into space, unsupported like the finest trapeze artist of our dreams, so nimble and quick. We appeased him with chocolate and fruit. He wanted none of it. We offered him a fair maiden but still he accepted nothing. He told us not to fear him. He paid credit to our crew for fine and valiant seamanship whilst under jury rig out of Midway and proclaimed he would look after us during the onward legs to Liverpool, declaring he would never be far away. He was sent by Neptunous Rex to ensure that fair play and fair winds were applied to our Big Blue Boat.
Then with no more ado or fanfare, he was gone. We sat spellbound in awe and wonderment at what we had seen, a great symbol of man’s fight for equality and freedom against the agents of evil. We felt gratified and toasted that symbol with lemon and ginger tea combined with a dash of sailor’s delight. Ho, ho, ho and a bottle of rum…By the way, where’s Pete?

Pete ! (I assume its my trapeze teacher up there) you look great in black ! When do Wonder Woman (Lyn I would nominate) and Superman (Stu… you all over!) make an appearance?
Oh while we are at it...Billy can star is Miss Moneypenny, Bruce as 007. I would suggest Jack as Batman and boywonder as Johnboy actually I am a bit torn… perhaps the other way. Jacks and Miaggi.... Bonnie and Clid(v)e.
I will start working on a script here!
On on !!

Well Spiderman I’m disappointed, but understanding of you not accepting the fair maiden offer, but how could you refuse the chocolate?!?! I guess just handing around the BBB fills you with joy and the notion of being the finest trapeze artist in your dreams too takes away the hunger pangs. Sounds like you’re all having a ball, but the coastal sightseeing seems to have put you back a little. Hope you’ll catch up again soon. Monica
