Third Time Lucky…
26 March 2008
The BBB’s third attempt to reach Hawaii is proving far more successful than her previous endeavours. Our second departure from Midway has been a world away from the first attempt; not only are we now speeding along nicely, but the bright blue gloves and orange beanies have been returned to their cubby holes and our foulies have been replaced by white, pasty bodies in shorts. The dotted line of what is acceptable to wear (and not wear!) in public has been crossed once more!
Despite the relaxed atmosphere onboard, in between our hectic schedule of watches, sleep and sunbathing, we are trying to make the most of the flat seas and calm winds by tackling the jobs that would otherwise need to be done in port. Hopefully by the time we join the rest of the fleet on dry land, all we will need to do is pop our stubby mast out, stick it to the extension, pop it back in and attach a few wires to the deck. Not forgetting to attach our new pulpit and guard rail for good measure - sounds about half a day’s work!!!! One side-benefit to all our daytime activity is that it stops us going ‘stir crazy’ having been at sea for so long, although for some of the crew we fear it may be too late!
Whilst we spend the days working hard, we dream of joining friends on Waikiki beach, surfing down the renowned Jaws wave and partying hard with the rest of the fleet! Hope you can join us…
Johnboy!
