This year will see Qingdao compete in the Clipper Round the World Yacht Race for a second time. The fleet of Clipper yachts are due to arrive in Qingdao in February 2008, just five months before the city will host the sailing in the 2008 Beijing Olympics.

Xinmin Yan

Age 38, Journalist

Xinmin is a journalist from Beijing who came to an open day at Clipper’s headquarters on the south coast of England and has not looked back. She will be competing on Leg 4 from Fremantle to Qingdao, venue for the sailing events of the 2008 Beijing Olympics. “The training has been really good and everything now is down to the details,” she says.

“It’s been interesting learning how to work with people from different cultures, even down to doing the washing up and cooking – we all do it different ways.”
