Jamaica Lightning Bolt is competing in the Clipper Race for the second time - and this time they're backed by the fastest man on the planet.

Olympic and World record holder Usain Bolt was on hand for the announcement that the Caribbean island would be taking its place on the start line and skipper, Peter Stirling, and his crew could not have been happier.

They're hoping they can add their own victories in Clipper 09-10 to the meteoric rise of Jamaica's sporting success. This is where you'll be able to follow their adventure, sharing in the highs and lows of this mammoth, 35,000-mile ocean race.

Peter Stirling

Peter’s summer holiday job as a launchman at South Caernarfonshire Yacht Club in North Wales provided him with the perfect opportunity to learn to sail as a teenager. In between ferrying crews to and from their yachts out on the moorings he began crewing on some of the 30 to 40-footers in off-shore races in the Irish Sea.

Since then the 43-year old has gone on to make sailing his career and, as a skipper delivering yachts around the world, has had the opportunity to sail with people from a range of backgrounds and with varying degrees of experience  – something that will stand him in good stead for the challenge of leading his crew...

30 May 2009 – crew allocation day – was the first time the crew of JAMAICA LIGHTNING BOLT gathered en masse. They're from all walks of life, people like you getting ready to leave behind their normal lives to take on the challenge of a lifetime.
