It’s another exciting week for the Clipper Round the World Yacht Race with the announcement of the twelve elite skippers competing in the race as well as becoming the main focus of this Thursday’s MainSail on CNN.

Wednesday sees the much-anticipated reveal of the twelve skippers chosen from hundreds of applicants to lead a team around the world during the 40,000-mile adventure.

The announcement of the race skipper comes ahead of another major milestone, Crew Allocation. The event, held at the Portsmouth Guildhall on the 11 May, will see each crew member assigned to their team and skipper.

The evening before the main event, Dame Ellen MacArthur will be holding a talk as part of the association with the Clipper Race about her sailing experiences and the Ellen MacArthur Cancer Trust. Click here to order tickets.

The Clipper Race also returns to the London Underground this week with crew posters appearing in over 400 locations across the transport network hoping to inspire commuters to down tools and sign up for the challenge of a lifetime.

Thursday’s episode of MainSail focuses on the world’s longest yacht race and includes exclusive interviews with founder Sir Robin Knox-Johnston and former winning skipper Alex Thomson, fresh from his Vendee Globe campaign.

The programme, presented by Double Olympic Gold Medallist Shirley Robertson, will be shown this Thursday on the CNN network as well as being available to view online. Keep an eye on our Facebook and Twitter channels for further details.
