Sir Robin previews Crew Allocation

With Crew Allocation for the Clipper 13-14 Round the World Yacht Race just days away, Clipper Race Chairman Sir Robin Knox-Johnston previews the day.

“This is a very important day for our 650 crew members who will discover who their skipper will be and the other crew members with whom they are to share the excitement of their forthcoming odyssey.”

The Crew Allocation event takes place on Saturday at the Portsmouth Guildhall and will see each of the twelve teams start to build their race campaign.

“From now on they are part of a crew and can start to get to know their fellow adventurers, finalise their training together and prepare for one of the great sailing challenges: their first crossing of an ocean,” continues Sir Robin.

“As the crews finish their training they will realise how well they have been prepared for their voyage, but the learning continues all the way around the world.

“Apprehension is normal, and indeed a good thing as it makes us all think and consider what else we might need to learn, but the real learning is “hands on”.

“Be cautious, be careful and be aware of what is going on around you, but above all, be aware of the enormous power of the sea.”

The Clipper 13-14 Round the World Yacht Race starts Sunday 1 September.
