“Recruitment continues to go well with trips to China and Ireland over the last few weeks,” explains David Cusworth, the Clipper Race’s Crew Recruitment Manager.
“We are now close to 90 per cent full for the Clipper 13-14 Race, but have places available on most legs and a limited number of round the world berths still up for grabs.”
The Clipper 13-14 Race promises to be the biggest yet with the introduction of the brand new fleet of 70-foot ocean racing yachts, increasing the number of crew taking part.
“In recent weeks I’ve interviewed people from Russia, China, the US as well as a professional violinist from London.
“People are already thinking about where they could be this time next year: the Southern Ocean and Tasman Sea. We still have places available on Leg 4, which was one of the toughest and most challenging on the last race,” continues David, who circumnavigated the world during the 2002 edition of the Clipper Race.
“We already have exciting plans for 2013; the unveiling of the brand new Clipper 70 in London in January with exclusive events for crew and potential crew. The boat will be open to look around between 12-20 January at St Katharine Docks.
“Training will start again in February and then run most weeks through to race start in July. We have crew allocation in May and a series of exciting announcements to come regarding boat sponsors and stopovers. A very busy year!”
