Henri Lloyd takes over lead in Clipper Race

Henri Lloyd has taken the overall lead of the Clipper 2013-14 Round the World Yacht Race after completing the third stage of the 40,000-mile adventure.

A haul of 13 race points in Race 3 was enough to see the team, skippered by Eric Holden, climb above the GREAT Britain team in the overall standings.

Henri Lloyd finished second behind the British entry in the 3,400 mile race to Cape Town, but with two extra points secured from the Race 3 Ocean Sprint the team now boasts a three point lead at the top of the leader board.

“Each of the races so far have been very competitive and closely fought out, just 19 seconds separated first and second place during the race to Rio de Janeiro,” comments Race Director, Justin Taylor.

“After three races the overall leader board is really starting to take shape with Henri Lloyd proving the extra points available through winning the Ocean Sprint and Scoring Gates really make the difference. Without those extra points they’d be third rather than leading the race overall.”

With GREAT Britain in second PSP Logistics currently occupies the final podium place with OneDLL and Invest Africa just one and two points behind respectively.

After a disappointing finish to Race 3, Qingdao and Jamaica Get All Right will draw positives from their Scoring Gate points and stand sixth and eighth in the table.

Derry~Londonderry~Doire sits in between Chinese and Jamaican entries in seventh while only two points separates Team Garmin, Switzerland and Old Pulteney.

Mission Performance is currently twelfth in the standings with six points. Click here to view the overall standings.
