Good Morning Sports Fans from Derry~Londonderry~Doire!
Well we prepared for the worst last night and I must admit to feeling a little hard-done-by. Instead of 70 knot gusts and hail, we had lighter than average wind and rain, lots and lots of rain.
The annoying thing is that we went slow all night waiting to be hammered at any minute by the cold front, when in actual fact, we could have averaged decent speed and been more comfortable with a larger sail plan. My patience and good seamanship wore out at dawn and we went straight to full main and a bigger Yankee and have been moving along nicely since.
Much to our relief, Murphy didn't enforce his law in that our mainsail and Yankee weren't torn from the mast by the elusive 70 knot gust as soon as we hoisted.
Happy Mother's Day to all the Derry~Londonderry~Doire crew mums! We're a motley bunch that only mothers could love! Ironically, the only actual mother on board ended up being 'mother' today.
Instead of her son making her breakfast in bed, Leg 5 and 6 crew member Jayne Thomas treated the crew to pancakes and then bacon butties for lunch on freshly baked bread rolls...heavenly!
