To develop trade routes and business partnerships between Qingdao in China, Hull and Humber in the UK and Cape Breton Island in Nova Scotia, the three parties teamed up to form a tripartite alliance in their Team Sponsorship of the Clipper 2009-10 Race.
Government representatives from the three city-regions met at the pre Race Sponsors’ Forum and identified a number of mutual objectives. This led to trade missions, networking events and targeted meetings at several stopovers with a particular focus on fostering relationships between Qingdao, Cape Breton Island and Hull and Humber.
To cement their new found trade relationship, a memorandum of understanding was signed by the three destinations during the Qingdao stopover in China to promote communication and cooperation, especially in two-way investment, import and export, trade exhibitions, education, tourism and culture. This formed the foundation for future business development.
“The Clipper Race project is a great marketing tool that is putting us on the map. It is opening doors for trade and investment, while creating global awareness of our island’s strengths and assets.”
