Errol Flynn Marina, The Jamaican Port Authority and the Jamaica Tourist Board are joint sponsors and will be promoting the marina and its facilities - showcasing Jamaica as a unique and diverse destination.
Jamaica is a vibrant country with world-famous reggae music, cuisine, athletes and culture. Its history and ethnic diversity mean the Jamaican people are blessed with many special qualities, which is highlighted through Jamaica’s motto which is ‘Out of one, many people’.
When the yachts and crew arrive in beautiful Port Antonio, Jamaica they will be welcomed to a unique blend of beach, culture, cuisine, music, sports and adventure tourism.
By sailing into Port Antonio crew members will be joining the likes of Hollywood legend Errol Flynn who is possibly the most exuberant visitor ever to land in ‘Porti’, as the locals call it. He was an avid sailor who described Port Antonio as ‘more beautiful than any woman I have ever seen’.
Sports tourism is an increasing focus, especially after the huge success of Jamaica athletes during the London 2012 Olympic Games.
Throughout the ‘world tour’ there will be a comprehensive schedule of ‘Jamaican Welcome Parties’ which will reflect the warm Jamaican hospitality. The national trade development agency, JAMPRO, will be highlighting opportunities for trade and investment.
Skipper, Pete Stirling, will be sailing the Jamaican yacht entry for the second time in the 2013-14 race. He returns after skippering ‘Lighting Bolt’ in the Clipper 09-10 Race. His knowledge and passion for Jamaica will ensure that the crew will takes the Jamaican message around the world.
Get All Right!
I’m most looking forward to the Eastern Australia to Qingdao leg of the race. This leg offers the most variety in terms of weather conditions, race tactics, complex navigation and weather routing.
