It's Special Sunday on board the good ship Derry~Londonderry~Doire and I can confirm it's feeling pretty special indeed. Day 3 of leading the fleet down to Rio and the mood amongst the crew is flying high! After 7 days at sea, we are working hard as a strong racing team, not only this but we learning more about each other by the day, learning each others strengths and weaknesses and knowing when someone just needs a little nudge of support to get them doing something out of their comfort zone - after all, life is for living and we only get one shot at this amazing race.
With the sun shining, the kite flying and mothers working hard in the galley, it felt the perfect moment for a little pampering. The girls (aka Myself, Susie Redhouse and Kristi) donned our shower caps up on deck, minutes later resulting in freshly cleaned hair. The things you do mid Atlantic hey?!
With temperatures rising as we head south to Rio, this 70-foot home of ours is starting to get a little toasty to say the least, watch out Doldrums we're ready and waiting for you, more so we're happily waiting for the squalls that will hit us, the shower gel is at the ready and I predict a few deck top showers!
Special Sunday was made just a little more perfect with an impromptu call home. I can confirm a 2 minute call to the big brother and parents is a moment that will keep me on a high for days to come. Hearing the support that Derry~Londonderry~Doire have back home and the addictiveness of the Race Viewer and those tracking our progress is a little surreal to us as we're the ones living in this bubble, but according to Skipper's Dad, we're putting on a pretty good show for all our friends and family.
So now it's time to sign off from this Super Special Sunday diary entry, with the sun setting and all crew up on deck enjoying a super Sunday Supper. Life is good on board Derry~Londonderry~Doire!
