Yo. We have just completed over 24 hour spinnaker sailing - the first since way before the Doldrums. There was not a little consternation in the crew with regards to helming skills as it had been a while since we unfettered the beastie...
Night time sailing was largely straight forward - if a little dark. Watching and concentrating on markers on the sail for an hour or more with very little light is wearing. Although the stars were fantastic.
With such a concentrated effort during the night, the hopes were high for good news with respect to our two main and closest rivals Henri Lloyd and OneDLL - but alas - we had slipped a mile or two to each of them - (mutter).
Right - action needed - with renewed determination to gain miles, the morning watch managed a close the gap. On the afternoon watch a plan was concerted to improve spinnaker helming skills through tuition from Skipper Sean and yours truly.
At the evening sched - the news we had been hoping for - the gap was closing. Woo hoo. And we had heightened are crew helming expertise as well. With a top class dinner of Shepherds Pie delivered by Michelle and Conor the day ended on a high note - and another dark night of spinnaker action under a new moon in prospect.
The Derry~Londonderry~Doire team are definitely still in the game....
